What You Need to Know What Is Cryotherapy? Cryotherapy, or cold therapy, is the use of extremely low temperatures as a wellness or medical intervention. While cold therapy can be as simple as applying an ice pack to a sore muscle or using an ice roller on your face, a more advanced and increasingly popular method is Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC).

Whole Body Cryotherapy involves briefly exposing the entire body to freezing temperatures, typically inside a specialized chamber or room. These cryotherapy chambers can reach temperatures ranging from -80℉ to -300℉—far colder than the freezing point of water (32℉).

How It Works & Why It’s Beneficial Originally used for pain management in medical settings, cryotherapy has gained widespread attention for its powerful effects on both physical and mental well-being.

The benefits stem from its ability to activate the sympathetic nervous system, triggering the body’s fight-or-flight response. This initial reaction includes an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, and the release of adrenaline and other hormones. After stepping out of the cryo chamber, the body rapidly shifts into recovery mode, leading to a cascade of physiological benefits.
